HAND-CRAFTED GOURD MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

This gallery shows a sample of the gourd instruments made by Patrick Loafman. He has made rattles, shekeries and didgeradoos, and can create any of these instruments on commission.

GOURD BANJOS

Cherrywood neck, fretless gourd banjo.

GOURD THUMB PIANOS

"Thumb pianos are called kalimbas, mbiras or other names depending on style and country in Africa. I tuned my thumb pianos to a key of G, but they can be tuned to any key. There are fifteen tines on these thumb pianos (more than most) giving them a wide tonal range."

$99.00  NONE in Stock, will make on commission

GOURD DRUM

"This is a new style of gourd drum I made last year with the sound hole directly above the skin. It sounds best played with your fingers. This drum is about 10" diameter and produces a surprising range of tones."

$199.00  SOLD Dec. 14, 2008

SEDONA, a rainstick

"This gourd sculpture (standing almost 3 feet tall) is also a rainstick. The design was inspired by the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. Rainsticks were used by Southwestern tribes in ceremonies to bring the rain."

$225.00  SOLD June 23, 2009
